MacNeil/Lehrer Productions, which produces public TV’s “MacNeil/Lehrer NewsHour,” announced that it will make its first trip into pay TV next year with a one-hour special for the Disney Channel. The program, “The Wizard: Thomas Edison,” examines the life of the famed American inventor. Hosted by Roger Mudd, it is the prototype for a proposed series, “American Originals,” which “would focus on exceptional Americans who have led inspirational lives,” the show’s spokesman said.
