Japanese to End Ore Imports from S. Africa

TOKYO —
Japan’s electric power companies will gradually stop importing uranium ore from South Africa and refined uranium from Namibia to support United Nations-led anti-apartheid sanctions, industry officials said.
Some Japanese companies import refined uranium from British companies that are suspected of buying from Namibia, which is run by South Africa in violation of U.N. resolutions.
The power firms will sever trading ties with the African countries as current contracts expire.
