A pipeline leading to an underground natural gas storage yard burst Wednesday in Valencia, triggering an explosion and sparking a 5-acre brush fire, utility officials and firefighters said. No one was injured.

“A 20-inch pipeline ruptured. There was a small leak, pressure built and it exploded. The fire resulted,” said Vicki Cho, a spokeswoman for Southern California Gas Co.

The rupture occurred at 11:56 a.m. about 2,000 feet from the gas company’s plant in Bouquet Canyon, about 35 miles northwest of downtown Los Angeles.
