The World : Marcos Wins Court Delay

Supreme Court Justice Thurgood Marshall temporarily excused former Philippine President Ferdinand E. Marcos and his wife, Imelda, from obeying federal grand jury subpoenas. Marshall, in granting an emergency request by the Marcoses, who are seeking to stay out of jail on contempt-of-court charges, did not say how long his order will remain in effect. But he said that he is referring the issue to the full Supreme Court, which will likely review the Marcoses’ plea Thursday. Marcos and his wife, indicted in New York on charges of fraud and of plundering $103 million from the Philippine treasury, have been ordered to provide financial records and fingerprints, palm prints and handwriting and voice samples.
