Santa Monica officials, in a concession to Los Angeles leaders and homeowner groups, are urging a 21% reduction in a huge office complex proposed for a 37-acre plot of land south of Santa Monica Airport.

The developer, Reliance Development Group, has submitted plans for a 1.4-million-square-foot office and movie studio complex for the site, which is in the southeastern corner of Santa Monica adjacent to several Los Angeles neighborhoods. Residents there have complained that they will suffer the brunt of traffic from the complex.

Santa Monica City Manager John Jalili on Monday announced his staff’s recommendation for the reduction, which will go before the Santa Monica Planning Commission on Nov. 30.

The cutback would cost Santa Monica an estimated $26.5 million in projected revenues from the project over the next 25 years, Jalili said.

Reliance President Henry A. Lambert has said he will consider some reduction.
