People from Israel to Iran were shivering Monday as winter came early to the Middle East, pushing November temperatures to their lowest in decades in some places.

Snow blanketed mountain peaks in several countries. In northern Lebanon, police and children on skis rescued several people trapped by snow up to 6 feet deep.

Snow fell in the Syrian mountains, and in Jordan temperatures fell to freezing Sunday night from 55 degrees during the day.
