Storm Moves Toward Florida
Tropical storm Keith rolled through the Gulf of Mexico toward Florida with top winds of 65 m.p.h. today and forecasters expected it to slosh ashore between Ft. Myers and Tampa by Wednesday morning.
The National Hurricane Center said Keith probably would remain a tropical storm and was not likely to grow into the season’s sixth hurricane with winds of 74 m.p.h. or more. Some Gulf Coast residents made preparations for the storm, buying batteries, bottled water and other hurricane supplies, but no long lines were reported at drug and grocery stores and no evacuations were planned.
