Wide receiver Mark Duper of the Miami Dolphins and defensive back Victor Scott of the Dallas Cowboys were suspended for 30 days by the NFL today for violating the league’s substance abuse policy, the league said.

“This hits like a hammer,” Dolphins Coach Don Shula said, “because of my high regard for Mark Duper and his contributions to this team over the years, and because of my high regard for Mark Duper as a human being.” Neither the league nor the teams would say what drugs were involved. The action against Duper and Scott brought to 24 the number of players suspended this season for violating the league’s drug policy.
