NAACP Honors Jesse Jackson, Eddie Murphy
The Rev. Jesse Jackson received the President’s Award and actor-comedian Eddie Murphy was named Entertainer of the Year Saturday night during the presentation of the 21st annual NAACP Image Awards.
The awards, sponsored by the NAACP’s Hollywood/Beverly Hills branch, recognize individuals and organizations that contribute to a positive portrayal of blacks in motion pictures, television and the recording industry.
Jackson, who in 1988 made an unsuccessful second bid for the Democratic presidential nomination, was honored for a lifetime of special achievement and public service.
Murphy, a perennial box office favorite, was cited for artistic excellence and contributions to the community.
