Women’s Basketball Roundup : Nelson Helps USC Get Past Pepperdine in Overtime, 75-74
Cherie Nelson scored 28 points and grabbed 12 rebounds Saturday night as USC’s women’s basketball team turned back Pepperdine, 75-74, in overtime in the first round of the Lady Wave tournament before a crowd of 400 at Firestone Fieldhouse in Malibu.
USC rallied from a 41-32 halftime deficit.
In the other game, Auburn routed DePaul, 83-65. USC will play Auburn tonight for the tournament championship.
CS Fullerton 68, UCLA 51--Gena Miller scored 24 points, and the Titans downed the Bruins at Fullerton.
Sandra VanEmbricqs scored 6 straight points to open the second half and bring UCLA (3-3) into a 32-32 tie, and the Bruins went on to take a 36-32 lead on baskets by Eugenie Lewis and Molly Tideback.
UCLA still led, 44-43, when Kathy Worth’s basket with 10:15 left started Fullerton (6-1) on an 8-point run.
Lewis had 12 points for UCLA, and VanEmbricqs, Tideback and Michelle Miles added 10 points each.
Werth and Felicia Benson added 12 points each for Fullerton.
