A Los Angeles police officer was charged Monday with solicitation to commit murder, the result of his allegedly accepting $50,000 last month to kill two associates of a Hancock Park businessman.

Keith Moser, 28, a three-year veteran, was arrested Nov. 3 in the parking lot of a West Pico Boulevard restaurant, where he had gone to collect the money, police said.

Police Chief Daryl F. Gates said at the time that Moser met the businessman when the officer answered a family disturbance call at his home. Then, “like a good officer, he made a follow-up call,” at which the man told him of problems with his business partners, Gates said.

The businessman came to police after the officer offered to kill a business associate, the chief said.

Moser will be arraigned today in Los Angeles Municipal Court. If convicted, he would face a maximum six-year prison term.
