A man who was severely burned in a mishap with a flaming cocktail has been awarded $1.25 million.

Charles McCarthy, 38, wept when the jury’s decision was announced Monday in Circuit Court. He worked as a roofer before he was burned from the waist up in the February, 1986, accident at Danny’s Bar in Ft. Lauderdale.

As the bartender was making a Russian Roulette, which is served flaming, the bottle of rum was ignited and the flames engulfed McCarthy, his attorney, Robert L. Spector, said.
