Local News in Brief : Rapist Is Stabbed to Death by Victim
A Van Nuys woman being raped in her apartment by an intruder who held a knife to her throat stabbed the man to death Tuesday after he put the weapon down, Los Angeles police said.
The 25-year-old victim awoke about 3:30 a.m. in her darkened apartment to find the man holding a steak knife to her throat, Detective Paul Stewart said. But “at one point during the sexual assault, he put the knife down and she saw an opportunity to escape,” Stewart said.
The woman picked up the knife and, when the man confronted her, stabbed him once and ran from the apartment, Stewart said. The 22-year-old intruder, whose name was withheld pending notification of relatives, staggered out of her apartment, came after her and then collapsed.
“This was a pretty clear-cut case of self-defense,” Stewart said.
