Mayor Tom Bradley announced Wednesday the creation of an independent blue-ribbon committee designed to address specific concerns of the entertainment industry and communicate them to local government. At a press conference at City Hall, the mayor outlined the committee’s first task: to provide a very warm welcome for the 1989 Grammy Awards--returning to Los Angeles in 1989 after a foray into New York this year--and find ways to keep the Grammys in town. Also in attendance Wednesday were officials from the L.A. Chamber of Commerce, the Visitors and Conventions Bureau, the television (presenter of the Emmy awards) and motion picture academies (Oscars) and other Los Angeles-area cultural and educational institutions.
