Local News in Brief : Mayor Backs Plan for Recreation Centers
Mayor Tom Bradley gave his support Wednesday to a plan for spending $3.5 million to refurbish recreation centers at eight public housing projects in Los Angeles.
The plan, proposed by City Councilwoman Joan Milke Flores, would correct dilapidated conditions at centers that the city’s Department of Recreation and Parks took over in 1978, Bradley said. Before then, the centers were operated by the City Housing Authority.
Until now the city had lacked the money to raise the quality of recreation centers at housing projects to that enjoyed by centers in other neighborhoods, Bradley said.
