OU President Says School Won’t Fight NCAA Action
The University of Oklahoma’s interim president said the school will not appeal the three-year football probation handed down by the NCAA, adding that the school will keep its house in order from now on.
“We accept the penalties imposed upon the university by the NCAA,” David Swank said Wednesday in a release issued through the school.
“We have an excellent athletic program, and we will go forward in full compliance with all NCAA rules and regulations in the future,” Swank said.
The probation announced Monday bars the Sooners from post-season play after the 1989 and 1990 seasons, and keeps them off live television next season. Oklahoma also loses scholarships and must cut back on the number of paid visits it will offer recruits in each of the next two years.
Meanwhile, former Oklahoma State coach Jimmy Johnson denied charges by a former Sooner player who said Johnson offered him large inducements to attend Oklahoma State.
