Pepperdine’s 85-69 Victory Snaps Marshall’s 30-Game Streak at Home

Dexter Howard scored 18 points and Casey Crawford added 17 points and 12 rebounds as Pepperdine ended Marshall’s 30-game regular-season winning streak at home with an 85-69 victory Wednesday night.

Pepperdine took control of the game early and built a 15-point halftime lead, 50-35. In the second half, the Waves extended their lead to as many as 26 points.

Marshall, which forced shots in the second half as it attempted to catch up, ended up shooting 36% from the field for the game. Pepperdine shot 47%.

The Herd was 4 for 18 from 3-point range, and the Waves connected on 7 of their 17 3-point attempts. Marshall was 15 for 23 from the free-throw line; Pepperdine was 6 of 10.

The Herd outrebounded the Waves, 48-41.

Craig Davis added 16 points, and Tom Lewis and Shann Ferch each scored 11 points for Pepperdine.

John Taft led Marshall with 15 points. Andy Paul Williamson had 13, and Jeff Sonhouse added 11.

Before Wednesday night, Marshall’s last regular-season loss at the Cam Henderson Center was to Austin Peay in 1986. The Herd’s only loss at home since then was to Virginia Commonwealth in the first round of the National Invitation Tournament last season.

The Waves improved to 7-3. The Thundering Herd of the Southern Conference fell to 3-4.
