President Reagan’s Comments on Choices of the Homeless
In the midst of the season of good cheers and good will to our fellow man, President Reagan has again shown us the way to enjoy this holiday spirit even more. Now we don’t even have to worry about the homeless anymore (“Reagan Says Some Homeless Sleep on Grates From ‘Own Choice,’ ” Part I, Dec. 23). They are just a bunch of people that make their own choice to stay outside in freezing cold rather than accept a warm bed in a shelter.
Never mind that in Washington Mitch Snyder stated that people had to be turned away from shelters already filled beyond capacity.
And is it so enlightening when the President explains that a lot of mentally impaired people are out there because of changes in the laws concerning their commitment to mental hospitals. Now, was that the tooth fairy who as governor of this state initiated the changes in these laws?
But at least we don’t have to feel guilty anymore, the President has told us that poor people are poor and homeless of their own free choice and will. So rejoice, drink up and put another log on the fireplace, we will be cozy tonight, and that is of our own free will and choice.
