Costa Mesa Girls’ Tournament : Capistrano Valley’s Balance Trips Up Montebello, 55-25
Holly Anderson and Laine Spence led a balanced scoring attack as Capistrano Valley High School defeated Montebello, 55-25, in the championship game of the Costa Mesa girls’ basketball tournament Friday at Costa Mesa High School.
Anderson and Spence each had 14 points. Bridget Baker scored 12 points for the Cougars (12-2). Spence also had 14 rebounds.
Alicia Placencia scored 7 points for Montebello (9-3).
Anderson was named the tournament’s most valuable player.
In the consolation championship:
Cypress 56, Tustin 50--Ericka Manning scored 21 points to lead Cypress (10-5). Stacie Kosaka had 13 points and Aimee Tenos 10 for the Centurions.
Teresa Perkins scored 16 points for Tustin (8-5).
In other consolation games:
San Clemente 37, Trabuco Hills 29--Karen Anderson scored 11 points and Amanda Valentino 10 to lead San Clemente (8-6). Shelly Calhoun scored 12 points for Trabuco Hills.
Estancia 62, Costa Mesa 32--Melody Earle, Patrice Lumpkin and Robin Courdrey each scored 13 points to lead Estancia (8-4). Maureen Moore scored 10 points for Costa Mesa (4-7).
Canyon 59, Saddleback 49--Keri Erkenbrack and Sheri Rhyne each scored 16 points for Canyon (8-5). Melody Mayfield and Angela Mayfield each scored 13 points for Saddleback (8-5).
