Channel Islands Tops Thousand Oaks in Triple Overtime
Center Ytteb Bowls had 21 points and 15 rebounds as Channel Islands High upset Thousand Oaks, 73-70, Friday night in triple overtime to capture the Thousand Oaks girls’ basketball tournament.
Bowls, the tournament MVP, and center Sal Tauau, who scored 25 points and grabbed 15 rebounds, took advantage of the Lancers’ lack of a true center.
Bowls scored the winning basket with 18 seconds left in the third overtime as she tipped in her own rebound to put the Lady Raiders ahead, 71-70.
Trailing by as many as 13 points in the third quarter, Thousand Oaks forced overtime behind freshman Michelle Palmisano, who scored 18 of her 30 points in the second half.
Palmisano made a jump shot with 26 seconds left in regulation to tie the score, 54-54, and also hit a shot with 31 seconds left in the second overtime.
