1988 THE YEAR IN REVIEW : Self-Esteem Task Force:
O ur readers wrote letters throughout 1988 expressing their viewpoints on a variety of issues. Here are condensed versions of some of those letters. We appreciate their taking the time to share their viewpoints and look forward to hearing from you in 1989. The Orange County Human Relations Commission applauds the enthusiasm for a county self-esteem task force.
The lack of self-worth is frequently identified as the root cause of violence and bigotry. Recent studies report that individuals who are self-assured and confident of their own inner worth have less tendency toward racism, sexism and religious intolerance.
The commission, dedicated to eliminating prejudice and discrimination, strongly advocates positive programs that improve self-esteem, such as the proposed task force.
