Jim Sprenger and John Fritsche each scored a pair of goals to lead the United States Select team to an 8-1 victory over Team Canada in the championship game of the Spengler Cup hockey tournament at Davos, Switzerland.
Sprenger, a defenseman, opened the scoring at 6:59 of the first period and added a shorthanded goal in the second period. Fritsche scored in the first period and again in the third to help the team made up of Americans who play in Europe become the first U.S. winner in the 63-year history of the tournament.
