Local News in Brief : Woman Held After Fire Damages Apartment
A 28-year-old woman was arrested Thursday on suspicion of setting fire to her second-floor apartment in Sepulveda, causing $30,000 in damage, authorities said.
There were no injuries in the 4:30 p.m. fire at the Villa Media apartment complex in the 9000 block of North Orion Avenue, said Capt. Bruce Fraude of the Los Angeles Fire Department.
It took 30 firefighters about half an hour to extinguish the blaze at the two-story building, Fraude said.
Shirley Polk was arrested at the scene and was being held in lieu of $10,000 bail at the Van Nuys Jail, said Tony Lapalio, a Fire Department arson investigator. Polk had been fighting with her husband when she reportedly set the fire, Lapalio said.
