Two cast changes were announced Friday for the New York City Opera engagement that begins Jan. 17 at the Orange County Performing Arts Center. According to Center officials, Jon Garrison will sing the Duke of Mantua in Verdi’s “Rigoletto” on Jan. 19, instead of the originally announced Frederic Kalt. No explanation for the change was given. Garrison also will sing the Duke on Jan. 17, as announced. Garrison had been scheduled to sing Tamino in Mozart’s “Die Zauberflote” on Jan. 20. He now will be replaced by Walter MacNeil. MacNeil will sing the role Jan. 18, too, as originally scheduled.
