Local : Baby-Sitter Gets 8 Years in Death
A baby-sitter was sentenced today to a maximum eight years and eight months in state prison for fatally shaking a 5-month-old boy in her care and physically abusing two other infants.
Superior Court Judge Howard J. Schwab imposed the sentence on Vicki R. Maas, 27, a Canyon Country resident who was described by county prosecutors as a “very angry, out-of-control adult.” Maas was convicted Dec. 16 of one count of involuntary manslaughter in the baby’s death and two counts of child abuse. Five-month-old David Allen Duncan died Jan. 8, 1988, of head injuries received two days earlier when the baby-sitter violently shook him. Maas was also found guilty of abusing two other infants while caring for them in her home.
