Oceanside police Monday were still investigating a weekend traffic accident in which a car that had been hit by a van struck a 76-year-old pedestrian, authorities said.

Police have not charged anyone in the death of Oceanside resident Ruby Hilborn. The district attorney’s office is investigating.

Hilborn was walking east Saturday on the sidewalk, in the 1600 block of Oceanside Boulevard west of Interstate 5, when she was struck by a car driven by a North Hollywood woman, police said.

Sue Bugen, 38, was trying to turn into a driveway when she was struck from behind by a van being driven by John Roberts, 44, of Vista, police said. Police said the collision pushed Bugen’s car into Hilborn as she walked across the front of the driveway at about 12:33 p.m.

Hilborn was conscious and talking at the scene of the accident, said Oceanside police spokesman Bob George, but she died in surgery at Sharp Memorial Hospital at 5:30 p.m.

William Krunglevich, another police spokesman, said Hilborn could not or would not accept blood transfusions at the hospital. He did not elaborate.

A hospital spokeswoman, citing patient confidentiality, would not comment on whether Hilborn had refused transfusions.

Deputy Coroner Robert Grubb said Hilborn died of multiple injuries.
