Local : L.A. Traffic Policeman Arrested
From Times staff and wire service reports
A veteran Los Angeles police officer assigned to traffic courts has been arrested on suspicion of tampering with files in an effort to block prosecution of a suspect in a drunk-driving case, investigators reported today.
Police said Officer Edward Romero, 44, a member of the force for 20 years, removed a document from a court file in exchange for money. He was released on $5,000 bail after his arrest Monday night on an obstruction-of-justice count. The suspect in the court case was not immediately identified.
