Four people were injured and rush-hour traffic was tied up for 2 hours Wednesday evening after a head-on collision involving several cars near Bolsa Chica State Beach, authorities said.

The driver of a Toyota Tercel, identified as Kevin C. Gysler, 36, of Encino, was arrested at the scene on suspicion of felony drunk driving and taken to the Huntington Beach City Jail, investigating officer Steve Mack said.

He said Gysler was returning home from Balboa about 5 p.m. when he rear-ended a Blazer and triggered the collision.

Police Sgt. Jim Dahl said Gysler was traveling west on Pacific Coast Highway when he hit the Blazer. Both vehicles crossed the center divider and struck three other cars head-on, Dahl said. “It was very lucky that there were no fatal injuries, especially in rush-hour traffic,” Dahl said.

Some commuters experienced a 2-hour delay in traveling from Long Beach to Huntington Beach, authorities said.
