Council Names New City Treasurer
The Manhattan Beach City Council Tuesday selected Steve Schlesinger, an accountant who is active in civic affairs, as the city’s new treasurer.
Schlesinger will hold office until April, 1992, when the term of Duncan Kelly would have expired. Kelly, who served as city treasurer for 12 years, died Dec. 16.
Council members decided last week to fill the vacancy by appointment rather than hold a special election, which could have cost the city up to $20,000. Seventeen people submitted applications for the part-time job, which pays $200 a month.
Schlesinger, a resident of Manhattan Beach for 15 years, serves on the city’s Board of Zoning Adjustment. He previously served on city advisory boards dealing with parks and public works.
