Late Free Throws Carry Coronado
The Coronado High School boys’ basketball team defeated Kearny, 52-47, Saturday night at Coronado.
The Islanders (6-9) were led by Tim Dewitt, who scored a game-high 15 and connected on his first three 3-point shots to help Coronado take an 11-4 lead. Derek Wastila added 13 points for Coronado, which preserved the victory by hitting 8 of 8 free throws in the fourth quarter.
Kearny, which defeated USDHS Friday in overtime, is 9-7.
Coastal League
Bishop’s 48, Parker 30--Todd Henderson scored a game-high 14 points and had 13 rebounds to lead Bishop’s (11-1, 4-0) in a battle for first in the league.
