Local News in Brief : Laguna Beach : Fire Causes $275,000 Damage, Smoke Injuries
An early morning fire heavily damaged a house Sunday, authorities said.
The home of John and Ruth Meyers in the 500 block of Dunnegan Place caught fire about 1:45 a.m. Half of the house had burned before 41 firefighters could put the blaze out an hour and 40 minutes later, Laguna Beach Fire Department Engineer Steve Rening said.
The cause of the fire is being investigated. Damage was estimated at $275,000, Rening said.
Two police officers and one firefighter were treated for smoke inhalation at South Coast Medical Center and released, Rening said.
The American Red Cross provided emergency shelter, food and clothing to the couple, who were in the house when the fire started but escaped unharmed.
