Pacific 10 Roundup : Cal Knocks Off 20th-Ranked Stanford, 75-64
Leonard Taylor had 21 points and 12 rebounds, leading California to a 75-64 Pacific 10 Conference upset of 20th-ranked Stanford Thursday night at Berkeley.
Cal (13-5 overall, 4-3 in the Pac-10) scored 14 consecutive points and held Stanford scoreless during 5 1/2 minutes late in game to take command. The Bears hit 24 of 29 free throws in the second half, including 16 in a row at one point.
Todd Lichti scored 18 points for Stanford (13-4, 5-2).
Oregon State 71, Washington 70--Gary Payton scored 14 of his 19 points in the second half, and the Beavers rallied from a 13-point deficit to beat the Huskies at Corvallis, Ore.
The Beavers (11-4, 4-3) scored 11 straight points to take a 70-61 lead with 1:46 left and held on despite making only 1 of 5 free throws down the stretch.
Eldridge Recasner scored 23 points for Washington (5-9, 2-5).
Oregon 67, Washington State 49--Frank Johnson scored 18 of his 22 points in the second half as the Ducks downed the Cougars at Eugene, Ore.
Trailing, 24-23, at halftime, Oregon (7-8, 2-3) took control with a 21-6 surge in the first 9 minutes of the second half.
Harold Wright scored 11 points for Washington State (6-9, 1-5).
