THE PREPS : South Coast League Basketball : Khari Johnson Leads El Toro Past Diablos

Khari Johnson scored 20 points to lead El Toro High School to a 67-62 victory over Mission Viejo in a South Coast League basketball game Friday night at El Toro.

Johnson also had 10 rebounds and had 6 assists for the Chargers (12-8, 2-3). El Toro used its defense to shut down Mission Viejo in the second half. The Diablos (7-11, 2-3) led at halftime, 33-30, but were outscored in the third quarter, 17-9.

Rob Johnson added 16 points and Greg Reynolds and Greg Everett each had 11 for El Toro.

Eric Cramer led Mission Viejo with 20 points. Jim Butchko added 16.

Capistrano Valley 73, Dana Hills 57--Capistrano Valley (15-4, 5-0) opened an 11-0 lead but found itself trailing in the third quarter before pulling out the victory with free throws. Forward Scott McCorkle scored 30 points and teammate Bill Mazurie added 16 points. Center John Lloyd scored 13 points for Dana Hills (13-9, 1-4).

Irvine 73, San Clemente 44--Bryan Allred scored 25 points to lead Irvine (18-3, 4-1) at San Clemente. The Vaqueros led, 21-14, at the end of the first quarter and 41-26 at halftime. Jason Molle had 17 points and a team-high 6 rebounds for Irvine. Mike Bell scored 13 points and David Hagedorn 10 for San Clemente (4-13, 1-4).
