The America’s Cup Organizing Committee has accepted...
The America’s Cup Organizing Committee has accepted four recommendations proposed by representatives of the 25 challengers of the 1991 America’s Cup XXVIII race. The ACOC was organized to manage the America’s Cup for the defending champion San Diego Yacht Club.
The ACOC unanimously approved the challengers’ proposals for size of boat, race course, number of races and dates for the next regatta, which, pending a court ruling, will be in May 1991.
The race will be a best-of-7 series over a course of 8 legs and 22.6 nautical miles. The biggest changes will be in the size of boat that will be competing.
The boats will be 75-footers, 10 feet longer and about 25% lighter than the 12-meter boats that were previously used.
