Prestige in Name
I write concerning the article “Opposition Appears Stiff to Naming Convention Center for King” (Jan. 10).
An El Cajon resident said, “When people lose their fear to drive through black neighborhoods is the time to eulogize their leaders. I am a pragmatist and not a racist.”
I say likewise, using that logic, when people lose their fear to drive through white neighborhoods is the time to eulogize their leaders.
Who is meant by “people” and who are “their” leaders? According to this manner of thought, nobody should be eulogized.
Martin Luther King Jr. is a leader of all men, women and children. Naming the San Diego Convention Center after him would lend prestige to our city and would not prevent anyone from entering it.
A Nobel Prize winner leads all. I am not a racist.
