Festive Redondo Beach Super Bowl 10K to Get Today’s Party Off to a Quick Start
It’s only the warm-up to the big event, but today’s 11th annual Redondo Beach Super Bowl 10K run takes pride in its party-before-the-party reputation.
The race, which drew 15,000 runners last year, features two world-class runners in the men’s race.
Steve Cram of Great Britain, the world-record holder in the mile, said he will approach the race as a training run.
Also entered is Alejandro Cruz of Mexico, who was the surprise winner of the Chicago Marathon last fall. Cruz, who trains in Boulder, Colo., also considers the race a training run.
Jacqueline Hansen of Santa Monica, former marathon world-record holder, is entered in the women’s division.
The race has gained a reputation as a running party in which football fans get some exercise before an afternoon of watching the Super Bowl.
Today’s race will include hundreds of costumed runners, centipede running teams and a handful of six-pack teams.
The race begins at 8 a.m. at North Harbor Drive and Beryl Street.
