New Routes Open in Mexico
New U.S.-Mexico air carrier routes beginning in February are expected to boost Mexico’s trade and tourism earnings, according to Arturo C. Sobrino, director general of American Airlines operations in Mexico.
Sobrino said the carrier will offer three flights a day from Raleigh-Durham, N.C., to the resort destinations of Cancun and Cozumel on the Caribbean, starting Feb. 11.
The same day American is to inaugurate three flights a day between Dallas and Monterrey, Sobrino said.
Direct flights between Chicago and the Pacific coast resort of Puerto Vallarta are scheduled to begin in December, he said.
Sobrino said Continental Airlines already has routes connecting Denver, Houston and Mexico’s Pacific Coast resort of Mazatlan.
“The three flights from Monterrey to Dallas will allow booming industry in Nuevo Leon state great flexibility in sending its export products to international markets,” Sobrino said.
American Airlines expects to carry more than 650,000 tourists from the United States to Mexico this year, he added.
