Local News in Brief : No Diamond Lane on Ventura Freeway
Caltrans on Tuesday removed what may be the last major barrier to the start this summer of widening the Ventura Freeway through the San Fernando Valley.
Officials disclosed that they have decided to stick to their conclusion reached two years ago to build the new eastbound fifth lane on the freeway between Woodland Hills and Universal City for all vehicles, rather than making it a diamond lane for car pools and buses.
The executive director of the California Transportation Commission--which controls Caltrans’ budget and in October ordered the agency to take another look at the diamond lane proposal--said he expects the commissioners to go along with Caltrans’ decision.
