Kingdom Upset by Blake in Hurdles
JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. — Two-time Olympic champion Roger Kingdom was upset for the second time this season by Olympic teammate Arthur Blake in the men’s 55-meter high hurdles at the Kodak Invitational indoor track meet Friday night.
Kingdom suffered a slight muscle pull early in the race but didn’t use that as an excuse.
“I’m not hurt, I just got beat,” said Kingdom, who has the fastest time of the season, a 6.98 at the Sunkist Invitational last weekend. “I’m about 50% compared to the way I felt for the Olympics.”
Blake’s time was 7.06, a meet record. Kingdom was timed in 7.07.
American Jake Jacoby cleared 7-6 1/2 to win the high jump, and Olympic gold medalist Gennadiy Avdeyenko of the Soviet Union had a disappointing night, finishing fifth with a jump of 7-3 1/2.
