The National Junior College Athletic Assn. has put the Salt Lake Community College basketball program on a year’s probation and ordered the team to forfeit 5 victories.
Investigators found that freshman guard John Staggers of Los Angeles, a former City player of the year at Crenshaw High School, had falsified a general education development test to gain admission last fall, spokeswoman Bonnie Barker said.
Barker said details were sketchy, but that someone other than Staggers had taken the GED test.
Staggers was suspended when the falsification became known and has returned to California, Barker said.
