Cal State Fullerton Notebook
Terry Payne, a 6-foot 4-inch, 185-pound quarterback from Hemet High School who passed for more than 2,000 yards last season, has made a oral commitment to attend Cal State Fullerton, and plans to sign with the Titans on Feb. 8, the first day of the signing period, his high school coach said.
Among the other schools that recruited Payne were Arizona, New Mexico, Cal, Oregon, Washington State and Alabama, said Hemet Coach Randy Brown.
Last season Payne passed for 2,139 yards and 13 touchdowns, completing 55% of his passes. He also threw 11 interceptions.
Fullerton’s softball team, despite having no seniors on the roster, is eighth-ranked in the NCAA’s preseason softball poll.
The Titans (52-20 last season, 24-10 in Big West play) opens play Feb. 12 when they play at Cal State Northridge.
