PREP BASKETBALL : Garden Grove League Girls’ Roundup : Santiago Wins at Free-Throw Line
Santiago High School made six of seven free throws in the final minute for a 36-32 victory over Bolsa Grande in a Garden Grove League girls’ basketball game Friday at La Quinta.
Becky Elcock, Stef Cave and Amy Pham each made two free throws in the last minute for the Cavaliers (8-10 overall, 5-6 in league play). Elcock and Robin Caires each scored 14 points.
C. Bussey scored nine points for Bolsa Grande (2-9 in league play).
Kennedy 52, Garden Grove 49--Valerie Ruiz had 20 points and six steals to lead host Kennedy (9-8, 8-3). Michelle Harris and Gina Alcoser each scored 12 points for the Fighting Irish.
La Quinta 63, Los Amigos 31--Amy Jalewalia had 32 points, 10 rebounds and eight steals to lead host La Quinta (18-3, 11-0). La Quinta led, 13-10, at the end of the first quarter, then outscored the Lobos, 23-8, for a 36-18 halftime lead. Tanya Krill scored 14 points and Heather Brannan 11 for the Aztecs. Krill also had 10 rebounds and Brannan 7.
