U.S. to Delay Eastern Oil Leases
WASHINGTON — The Interior Department said today it will delay an offering of oil and gas leases in federal waters off Florida, Georgia and North and South Carolina because of limited industry interest. The department said environmental studies of the area would continue and the government would issue another request for expressions of drilling interest this fall. The lease auction, originally scheduled for October, 1990, now is planned for some time early in 1992.
