NBC’s Connie Chung May Return to CBS
NEW YORK — Less than a week after Diane Sawyer agreed to leave CBS News for ABC, there was speculation Friday that Connie Chung is considering leaving NBC to return to CBS News, possibly to join a revamped “West 57th.”
Chung, whose network career began with CBS in 1972 and who anchored at what now is KCBS-TV Channel 2 in Los Angeles from 1976 to 1983, has had discussions with CBS, but those were only “exploratory,” one source said.
The newswoman, who joined NBC in 1983 and is reportedly paid $900,000 annually, was reported on assignment in New Mexico and unavailable for comment Friday.
Chung, whose contract expires in May, reports for “NBC Nightly News” and anchors the Saturday edition of the network newscast.
CBS News spokesman Tom Goodman declined to comment on whether his network is trying to lure Chung back.
