Controversy Over Gun Control Laws
So, the Los Angeles City Council passed a new ordinance banning the sale and ownership of semiautomatic assault-type weapons (Part I, Feb. 8). An easier approach would have been to pass a law making it illegal to fire any weapon within the city, or a law making it illegal to fire any weapon from a vehicle, or a law making it illegal to carry any loaded weapon in the city, or a law making it illegal to wantonly kill someone.
You say there already are such laws? And the criminal element just ignores them? I wonder why the City Council thinks this new ordinance will change anything?
