An estimated 3 million to 4 million Iranians celebrated the Islamic revolution’s 10th anniversary by taking to the streets of Tehran for a rally and roaring, “Death to America!” A 10-story-high portrait of the Iranian supreme leader, the Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini, served as a backdrop as President Ali Khamenei told the throng that their nation is ready for relations with “every country that doesn’t plot against us.” But a resolution read aloud said Iran should never have ties with Israel, South Africa or “their godfather, the Great Satan”--the Iranian epithet for the United States.
