Sony Corp.’s third-quarter earnings rose 44.5% to $229 million on sales of $4.87 billion, up 37% from a year ago. Half of the increase in sales for the period was the result of the Japanese electronics firm’s $2-billion acquisition of CBS Records, which took effect in January, 1988. Results for 1987 were restated to reflect a change in an accounting standard.
