POP LP CHART : Debbie Gibson Takes Teen Crown
Debbie Gibson has certainly won her unoffical battle with Tiffany for the title of America’s teen queen. Tiffany’s million-selling album, “Hold an Old Friend’s Hand,” hasn’t done badly, but Gibson’s “Electric Youth” is the hottest album in the last few months, zooming up to No. 5 on the Billboard magazine pop chart in just three weeks. Her ballad single, “Lost in Your Eyes,” is the No. 2 pop single. Three new albums are roaring up the pop chart, with Roy Orbison’s “Mystery Girl” (No. 15) making the most noise. The others: Tesla’s “The Great Radio Controversy” (No. 28) and the “Dylan and the Dead” live album (No. 38). Paula Abdul’s “Straight Up” is the No. 1 pop single for the third straight week.
* Rapper Tone Loc’s racy “Loc’ed After Dark” is running wild on the pop chart, racing up to No. 25 in the two weeks. The album is an instant hit because it features “Wild Thing,” which is No. 3 on the pop singles chart.
