The Preps : 4-AA Basketball Playoff Roundup : Robison Paces Torrance Past Sunny Hills

Richard Robison scored 26 of his game-high 38 points in the second half to lead Torrance High School to a 75-53 victory over Sunny Hills Friday in the second round of the Southern Section 4-AA boys’ basketball playoffs at Sunny Hills.

Torrance (16-10) took a 29-17 halftime lead. In the third quarter, Robison connected on three of his seven three-point field goals. Torrance led after three quarters, 55-30.

Torrance center Toby Wollard scored 21 points, including 10 in the first quarter. Art Terrill scored 10 points and blocked three shots in the first half.

Sunny Hills (17-8), playing its first playoff game after a first-round bye, was led by senior forward Marcus Hopkins with 18 points. Walter Mitter was the only other Lancer in double figures with 12 points.

Torrance held Jeff White and Jon Beuerlein, the Lancers’ starting backcourt, to three points each.

Inglewood 77, Mission Viejo 72--Forward Harold Miner scored 35 points, including a three-point play with 1:09 remaining, as host Inglewood improved to 16-8.

Mission Viejo held a 71-68 lead but Miner stole a pass and was intentionally fouled by Eric Cramer as he scored a layup. His free throw tied the score, 71-71, and Inglewood was given possession. Inglewood’s Johnny Terrell made two free throws 28 seconds later.

Cajon 63, El Modena 61--Amar Washington scored 19 points, including four free throws in the final 30 seconds, for the Cowboys (17-9) at Cajon. Freshman center Shaun Battle scored 17 points for Cajon. Robbie Pietsch scored 20 points for El Modena (20-6).
