Factory Home Production in State 12,003
California’s manufactured-home industry sold 12,003 homes last year of which 10,457 were sited in the state, with the remainder exported to other states, according to the California Manufactured Housing Institute.
The institute said more than 1 million Californians live in more than 540,000 manufactured houses. The cost of the average manufactured house sold during 1988 was $37,230, excluding the cost of the land, according to Tony Hadley, spokesman for the institute.
Hadley said construction cost for a manufactured house averaged $30.99 per square foot compared to $43.40 a square foot for a comparable site-constructed house.
